A Wicklow man charged with driving without a licence has been released on bail while directions are awaited in his case.

Donal Byrne (33), of 1 The Cedars, Diamond Valley, Upper Dargle Road, Bray, Wicklow, was charged with driving without a licence under Section 51 of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

Mr Byrne’s solicitor told the court that his client wished to plead guilty to the charge and that the incident had occurred over two years ago.

The court heard that Mr Byrne had a previous case before Bray District Court, where he received a six-month suspended sentence for two years.

The court is now awaiting directions to determine whether the current incident falls within the time frame of that suspended sentence.

As no directions were available, Judge David Kennedy remanded Mr Byrne on bail to appear again before Bray District Court on September 8.
