Wicklow man banned from driving for four years after giving gardaí false name
The Wicklow PeopleA Wicklow man who gave gardaí a false name, after being stopped on the N11, has been banned from driving for four years.
Sean Treacy, of Lower Kindlestown, Delgany, pleaded guilty to one count of driving without a valid licence, one count of driving without insurance and another driving offence at a sitting of Bray District Court.
Sergeant Mick Dee said that on June 12, 2026, on the N11 at Loughlinstown, Mr Treacy was detected travelling at 102 kmh in a 100 kmh zone.
When stopped by gardaí, he told them his name was Sean Murphy, before admitting that it was not his name and that he had no valid licence.
The court heard that Mr Treacy has several previous convictions for motoring offences.
Counsel for the defence, Fiachra Nicholas Treacy, explained that his client has had a “transient lifestyle” after issues at his family home.
He added that his client is now back living with his mother following the end of his relationship.
In mitigation, the court heard that the defendant had previously had an issue with drugs and alcohol, “which is not reflected in his charge sheets”.
Mr Nicholas Treacy said that the defendant is now boxing at Enniskerry Boxing Club, and previously worked as a tree surgeon, but lost his job due to his “lack of a licence”.
Judge Paula Cullinane banned Mr Treacy for the mandatory term of four years and took the remaining charges into consideration.
