Wicklow man admits child sexual abuse material offences as case adjourned for psychological report
The Wicklow PeopleA man who admitted possessing child sexual abuse material across multiple devices and online accounts has had his case adjourned to allow for the preparation of a psychological report
Hassan El Mawla (23), with an address in County Limerick and formerly of Liam Mellows Avenue, Arklow, appeared at a sitting of Wicklow Circuit Criminal Court.
The accused pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of child sexual abuse material.
On November 10, 2022, El Mawla possessed a Samsung mobile phone which contained 68 images and 11 video files, and a Huawei mobile phone containing 54 images of child sexual abuse material.
Between May 16, 2022 and May 23, 2023, he possessed additional material stored in two Google accounts, including 99 images and four video files of more child sexual abuse material.
Counsel for the prosecution, James Kelly, stated that legal aid had previously been extended to allow for the preparation of a psychological report.
Defence barrister Edmund Sweetman told the court that his instructing solicitor is currently engaging with the Department of Justice to determine how many assessments will be sanctioned under legal aid.
Mr El Mawla’s bail conditions were altered due to his change of address, and he is now required to sign on at Henry Street Garda Station in Limerick.
Judge Siobhán Ní Chúlacháin adjourned the matter until early June 2026 to allow for progress to be made on the psychological report.
