A Wicklow man accused of careless driving causing harm, following an incident involving a pedestrian, has been sent forward for trial.

David Lee (67), with an address at Richmond Hill, Fassaroe, Bray, appeared at a sitting of Bray District Court charged with careless driving causing harm.

It is alleged that on August 5, 2025, at SuperValu car park, Castle Street, Bray, Mr Lee drove without due care and attention, which resulted in an accident involving a pedestrian.

Sergeant Mick Canavan told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has decided that the matter will go before the Circuit Criminal Court on indictment, which has harsher sentencing penalties.

He said that Mr Lee has legal representation, but his solicitor is taking part in the withdrawal of legal aid services.

The withdrawal of services follows a dispute between criminal defence solicitors and the Government over proposed legal aid reforms brought in on July 1 by Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan.

Judge Paula Cullinane adjourned the matter until January 25 for the preparation of a book of evidence.
