An individual accused of assaulting his mother and breaching a protection order has appeared in court, where he was told both his mother and a neighbour want to drop the case.

The man who is accused of assaulting his mother and breaching a protection order appeared before Bray District Court, where the judge heard that both complainants now want the case withdrawn.

A man who cannot be named to protect the identity of his victims appeared at an in-camera family law sitting at Bray District Court, charged with assault and with breaching a protection order taken out by his mother.

The court heard that the defendant had been granted bail but refused to take it up to “help stabilise himself”. The court was told that the assault arose from an incident in which the defendant allegedly became violent towards his mother, a neighbour, and gardaí.

The defendant’s mother told the court that she has since refused to pursue charges. The neighbour allegedly informed gardaí that she wanted the matter struck out.

Judge David Kennedy noted that, for him to strike the matter out, he would need to hear from the neighbour under oath.

The court was informed that the protection order had been taken out because the defendant’s mother wanted him removed from her home, as she “was losing him to drugs”. The alleged breaches of the order occurred on September 9, 2025, and September 21.

The defendant’s solicitor, Brendan Maloney told the court that his client is pleading guilty to the theft of two bottles of cider in an unrelated matter.

Judge Kennedy released the defendant on continuing bail until December 11, 2025, when he is due to be sentenced on the unrelated theft charge and for a hearing on the assault and breach of the protection order.
