A Wicklow man with 32 previous convictions has been fined, after admitting to abusive and drunken behaviour towards gardaí.

Gerry Connors (18), with an address in Bray, Co. Wicklow, pleaded guilty at a sitting of Bray District Court to two public order offences.

Sergeant Mick Canavan told the court that in October 2025, while on patrol, gardaí observed Mr Connors stumbling against parked cars while holding a can of alcohol. The court was informed that when approached by gardaí, Mr Connors shouted, “fuck you”, and acted in an abusive manner.

The court heard that the defendant has 32 previous convictions, including one for assaulting a police officer, burglary, and 10 for theft. Counsel for the defence, Eamonn O’Moore BL, noted that most of his offending occurred when he was a juvenile.

Mr O’Moore told the court that his client “is slow moving” due to a spinal injury sustained in August. Mr Connors is currently on disability benefit and is “in and out of hospital” while awaiting surgery. The court was informed that Mr Connors has an addiction to alcohol, and that his family has a long history of mental health issues.

Judge David Kennedy commented that the incident took place in October and remarked that Mr Connors’ back “must not have been that bad”.

Judge Kennedy fined him €500 and took one of the offences into consideration.
