Several cases were heard before Bray District Court and Arklow District Court recently, including those relating to incidents of assaulting gardaí, shoplifting, money laundering and production of an article.

A man appeared before Bray District Court via videolink accused of assault causing harm during an incident in Arklow.

Gary Kelly (47), of Kilmartin Drive, Tallaght, was charged with an assault causing harm at Abbey Street, Arklow to Jason Douglas in July 2025.

The court heard that “Mr Kelly has been in custody for well over a month”.

Judge David Kennedy consented to bail for Mr Kelly under strict conditions. Kelly’s bail conditions will be agreed upon when he returns to court on September 22, 2025. The solicitor for Mr Kelly thanked Judge Kennedy.

A 29-year-old man appeared before Arklow District Court accused of a wide range of offences across Carlow and Wicklow.

Jonathan Teevan, of Knocknaboley, Hacketstown, faces more than 20 charges including assaults on gardaí, criminal damage, unlawful possession of vehicles, threats to kill, and multiple counts of dangerous driving. The alleged offences took place between April and June of this year.

On April 30, 2025, Mr Teevan allegedly assaulted a man in Hacketstown, threatened to kill or cause serious harm, and damaged the rear windscreen of an Audi A5.

At Clonmore Hill on May 15, he is accused of dangerous driving and making threats to kill. On the same day in Tinahely he allegedly drove without insurance or a licence, while at Crossbridge he faces a charge of endangerment. Also on May 15, at Knocknaboley, Mr Teevan is charged with assaulting a garda in the course of his duty and with unlawful possession of a mechanically propelled vehicle.

On May 16, in Hacketstown, he is accused of causing criminal damage to a blue Skoda Octavia and two marked Garda patrol cars.

He faces additional counts of dangerous driving, unlawful possession of a vehicle, assaulting a garda, and resisting two gardaí.

The alleged offending continued into June. On June 7, in Carnew, Co Wicklow, he is accused of criminal damage to a shopfront and a wooden frame, and of engaging in dangerous driving at several locations including Kilcavan, Aughrim Road, Main Street and Leitrim.

On one occasion it is claimed he drove a stolen vehicle onto a pedestrian footpath.

The following day, June 8, he was charged with possession of cannabis herb in Hacketstown and unlawful possession of another vehicle at Knockananna.

Judge David Kennedy adjourned the matter to September 22, 2025. Mr Teevan was remanded to Cloverhill to appear via videolink.

A man aged in his 40s came before Arklow District Court charged with robbery and production of a knife in connection with an alleged incident at a betting shop.

Jamie Carroll (43), of 5 Mary B Mitchell Close, Arklow, Co. Wicklow appeared at Arklow District Court charged with robbery and production of an article (knife) at Boyle Sports, 74 Lower Main Street, Arklow. The incident took place on October 23, 2023.

The court heard that when charged by gardaí, Mr Carroll’s reply was “it wasn’t me”. The solicitor for Mr Carroll applied for bail, but the application was rejected.

Mr Carroll was granted legal aid by Judge David Kennedy, who remanded the defendant in custody to September 23, 2025, at Wicklow District Court sitting at Bray.

An Arklow man has been sent forward for trial accused of money laundering offences said to have taken place in 2020

Dylan Byrne (24), 71 The Maples, Wexford Road, Arklow, appeared before Arklow District Court charged with money laundering between the dates of October 12, 2020, and October 13, 2020.

Sergeant Anthony Flynn told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) consented to trial, which is due to take place on the next sitting of Wicklow Circuit Court on October 8, 2025.

The book of evidence was served on Mr Byrne at Arklow District Court, where Judge David Kennedy issued Mr Byrne with an alibi warning, telling him: “If you intend to rely on an alibi at trial, you must notify the prosecution within 14 days of today.”

A second counsel was granted for trial and Judge Kennedy remanded Mr Byrne on continuing bail on a bond of €100 until his trial.

A Bray man is now the subject of a bench warrant after failing to appear before the court on a theft charge.

Patrick Lynch (20), of 1 Sally’s Rest, Blind Lane, Bray, is accused of stealing €630 worth of clothing from Sports Direct in Bray on May 27, 2025. He had originally appeared before the court in June, when he was ordered to stay away from the store and remanded on bail of €300.

The matter was then adjourned to September 15, 2025, for a plea or a date to be fixed.

When the case was called on September 15, 2025, Lynch failed to appear. Judge David Kennedy issued a section-eight bench warrant for Mr Lynch’s arrest.

A 45-year-old woman was before Bray District Court after being charged with stealing groceries from a Tesco store in Greystones.

Kathleen Doyle (45), of Coile Díos, Athboy, Co Meath, is accused of taking goods worth €80.32 from Tesco, Bellevue Road, Greystones, on February 20, 2024.

When her case was first called, Ms Doyle appeared without legal representation. She addressed the judge directly, telling him she had recently suffered the sudden death of her two-year-old niece.

She explained she had only collected the ashes the previous week and said a photograph of the child had even been shown on ITV News. Ms Doyle attempted to hand up the picture on her phone in court.

Judge David Kennedy told her that “justice is done in open court”. He added that her case would proceed in the normal way.

Later in the day, when the matter was called a second time, solicitor Michael O’Connor came on record for Ms Doyle. He requested time to take instructions. Judge Kennedy agreed to an adjournment.

Ms Doyle is back before Bray District Court on November 3, 2025.
