A Wexford woman with nearly 40 charges before the court was sentenced to five months imprisonment.

The majority of the offenes before the court related to thefts from stores in Wexford Town and Gorey. Among the items taken were €230 worth of vape pens from Candy Cloud in Wexford town, groceries from Pettitts SuperValu and Aldi, and clothing from stores including TK Maxx, Dunnes Stores, JD Sports, DV8, Penneys and Regatta.

Maggie Connors (40) of 5 St Martins Terrace, Drinagh, Wexford, was also charged with the unauthorised taking of a vehicle from Lower John Street on January 1, 2026.

In addition, the court heard on April 21 2022 she had struck a shop owner on North Main Street, Wexford, with the end of a broom handle during an incident, with the blow connecting with the woman’s jaw.

Gardaí told the court that Connors has 21 previous convictions and that many of the offences before the court were committed while she was on bail.

Solicitor for the defendant, Edward King, informed the court that Connors had not come to the attention of An Garda Síochána in a number of years and that the crimes committed were indicative of the woman falling back into drug use and addiction. Mr King acknowledged there is no question Connors is a nuisance for the shop owners around Wexford but added that these crimes are committed while she is under the influence, and when sober is a person that is easy to deal with.

Judge John Cheatle remarked that 38 counts is too much to simply sweep away and sentenced the accused to five months imprisonment adding a further five months suspended for 10 months to run consecutively on the condition that the accused enter in to a 12 month probation supervision bond on her release. He also directed that Connors stay away from North and South Main Street, Wexford.
