A Wexford man with 46 previous convictions entered pleas of guilty to multiple public order offences.

Gardaí told the court that on September 4 2025 Joseph Sinnott (52) of 4 The Townhouses, Stephens Court, New Ross, Wexford, was observed highly intoxicated and shouting obscenities at members of the public at Monck Street, Wexford.

On another occasion Sinnott was causing a disturbance at Macken’s Pub, Wexford, by banging on the door and shouting after being refused entry due to being barred from the pub on a previous occasion.

There was also a charge of criminal damage before the court where the accused defecated in a cell at Wexford Garda Station.

A further public order charge related to an incident on October 7, 2025, when Sinnott attended Wexford General Hospital and demanded to be seen at the nurses’ station. When a nurse attempted to deal with him, he became verbally abusive and swung at her but missed.

Tim Cummings, solicitor for the accused, commented that alcohol is the common denominator in all of the offending. Mr Cummings informed the court Sinnott has been engaging in substance misuse treatment and was on a downward spiral at the time of the offences.

Sinnott pleaded guilty accepting responsibility for his actions, as well as taking steps to address his personal issues.

Judge Cheatle imposed three month prison sentence suspended for 12 months on the condition that the accused enter into a 12 month probation supervision bond. The matter was adjourned to March 08 2027 for finalisation to ensure the accused does not come to any further attention of An Garda Síochána.
