Wexford man found with €11,000 worth of drugs in his home will be sent forward for trial
Wexford PeopleA Wexford man facing charges of possession of drugs and possession of drugs for sale and supply has been granted bail despite garda concerns that he would continue to engage in drug dealing if released from custody.
Gorey District Court heard that Detective Garda Mulqueen executed a search warrant at 7 Inisfáil Court, Newtown Road, Wexford, on August 18, 2025, at the home of Shamrath Flynn (21).
During the course of the search, gardaí discovered cannabis in a shed to the rear of the property, while a gear bag hidden in an oil tank was found to contain cannabis and chloromethcathinone, commonly known as “blow”. A quantity of white powder, later believed to be cocaine, was also discovered in a hot press inside the house.
The court heard that certificates from Forensic Science Ireland later confirmed the substances recovered. Gardaí estimated the total value of the drugs seized at approximately €5,900 worth of cannabis, €4,200 worth of “blow”, and €1,600 worth of cocaine
Directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions were received on June 2, 2026, directing that Flynn be sent forward to Wexford Circuit Criminal Court for trial.
The court also heard that the property had been searched on two further occasions, May 5 and May 17, 2026, during which smaller quantities of cannabis were discovered. Flynn admitted at the time that the cannabis was for his own personal use.
Gardaí objected to bail, arguing they believed Flynn was involved in the sale and supply of drugs and would commit further offences if released. Solicitor for the accused, Lana Doherty, highlighted to the court that it would be some time before the book of evidence is ready to be served on Flynn and it would be detrimental to his employment as a plasterer to hold him in custody in the meantime.
Judge Staunton commented that the offence is somewhat historic in nature but there is concerns that drugs were found at the property again in May.
The judge ultimately granted bail subject to strict conditions, including a bond of €5,000, an independent surety of €5,000, and a cash lodgement of €2,500.
The matter was adjourned to October 7 for mention. Jurisdiction was accepted in relation to the minor possession charges, which will remain before the District Court.
