A swimmer used a "particularly horrible" racial slur against a man he claimed was harassing a friend, a court heard.

Giorgi Gotsiridze (44) got into an argument with the man outside a hotel while a wedding reception was taking place.

Judge Shalom Binchy said Gotsiridze had used a particularly horrible word, and she convicted and fined him €300.

The defendant, with an address at The Briars, Ashbourne Co Meath, was found guilty of using threatening and abusive behaviour at The Shoreline Hotel in Donabate on June 21, 2026.

Balbriggan District Court that Gotsiridze was shouting at another male when gardai arrived at the car park of the hotel.

Officers separated the pair, but Gotsiridze told the garda he should be "arresting that n****r".

The court heard that Gotsiridze used that same racial slur about the man on three or four occasions.

The hotel was hosting a wedding at the time, and guests came out to see what was happening, the court heard.

In his evidence, Gotsiridze denied using the n-word, saying he knows how upsetting it can be.

He said he had met a lady on the beach, and they had gone swimming. When she came out of the water the victim started arguing with her and harassing her. He claimed he simply told the man he wanted peace, to stop arguing and go home.

The court heard Gotsiridze, a warehouse operative, had no previous public order convictions.
