This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

A 24-year-old man who cannot be named for legal reasons was sentenced to 15 months in prison for defilement at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Judge Martin Nolan imposed the sentence after the man pleaded guilty to defilement on 9 May 2021; a second count from July 2021 was taken into account.

The report said the offences followed the man giving his then-16-year-old second cousin cocaine, and that she contracted chlamydia. His barrister said there was no suggestion of force or coercion, while accepting responsibility for the misconduct and the infection.

Judge Nolan considered that the girl was close to the age of consent and that the defendant was 21 at the time of the offences. The proceedings were reported on 10 February 2025.
