An unnamed father received a three-year suspended sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for threatening to kill or cause serious harm to a Tusla social worker. Judge Martin Nolan said the threat was believed by the injured party but he did not think the man intended to carry it out. The proceedings were reported on 5 May 2023.
The man pleaded guilty to making the threat on January 20th, 2022. The report said he had nine previous convictions, including a child cruelty conviction that received a one-year suspended sentence in April 2021.
The judge warned that the most minor infraction would result in prison and adjourned the activation hearing for the earlier sentence for two weeks. Defence counsel said the man was remorseful, had not meant the threats and had made them after a tense atmosphere at the house; the prosecuting garda agreed there had been tension.
