An unnamed father convicted of rape, sexual exploitation, sexual assault and child cruelty was given a life sentence by the Court of Appeal on 30 July 2024, after it found his original 15-year term too lenient.
The offences against three of his children took place in Munster between August 2014 and April 2016, when they were aged five, six and seven.
The court quashed the original sentence and imposed life imprisonment, saying the offending involved grave, prolonged abuse of young and vulnerable children and a gross breach of trust.
Reporting restrictions protecting the children’s welfare and identities remain in place.
