Ukrainian national pleads guilty to wire fraud conspiracy after extradition from Ireland

By Tadhg O'Sullivan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Oleksii Oleksiyovych Lytvynenko pleaded guilty in the United States to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with the Conti ransomware operation, following his extradition from Ireland. He admitted joining the conspiracy around September 2021 and working on coding a malware loader. His sentencing is scheduled for September 10, 2026; he faces a maximum 20-year prison term, and a judge will determine any sentence.

The guilty plea follows the Irish Court of Appeal’s dismissal of his challenge to extradition. The court rejected his arguments concerning access to evidence, fair-trial rights, family life and the risk of being returned to Ukraine, finding that temporary protection in Ireland did not itself prevent extradition.
