Two Zimbabwean workers retain €30,420 awards after Unity Healthcare appeal rejected

Two Zimbabwean care workers, Brenda Mubaiwa and Tatenda Ncube, have retained Workplace Relations Commission awards of €30,420 each after the Labour Court rejected Unity Healthcare Services’ appeals as late. The appeals were filed one day after the 42-day deadline, and the court found no exceptional circumstances to extend it. The Labour Court did not rehear the wage claims, and payment has not been publicly confirmed.

The awards followed complaints by workers recruited for care jobs in Virginia, County Cavan, which they said never began. The Irish Times reported in November 2025 that Mubaiwa testified she had received only €300 from Unity and that her mother borrowed money to pay for her son’s examinations. Six other appeals remained undecided at the time of the latest reporting.
