A Dublin man allegedly caught with child abuse images involving a four-year-old girl is facing trial on the charge.

The man, who is in his 40s, is also accused of producing child abuse images or facilitating the production of them.

The accused asked a court, “Where did these charges come from?”, and claimed he had not seen his children in 18 months.

Judge Shalom Binchy told the man that he should speak to his lawyer.

The accused appeared before Swords District Court charged with two counts of producing child pornography or facilitating the production of child pornography at his home in north Dublin on May 22, 2024.

He is further charged with possession of 12 child abuse images of a four-year-old female on the same date and location.

Sergeant Shane Griffin said the DPP had directed trial on indictment in the circuit court on the charges.

Defence lawyer Annette Kealy asked for the disclosure of evidence so she may consult with her client.

Judge Binchy assigned defence solicitor Michael Byrne on free legal aid, and she adjourned the case to a date in January for the service of the book of evidence.
