Teacher challenges disclosure of sexual impropriety allegations

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

An unnamed teacher challenged the Garda Vetting Bureau’s proposed disclosure of sexual impropriety allegations to the Teaching Council at the High Court, in a report published on 6 July 2021.

The teacher denied wrongdoing. The allegations concerned claims that he had inappropriately massaged two children more than 20 years earlier; the report said the allegations were made to gardaí in 2013.

The teacher argued that the bureau’s process was unfair because he had not seen material used in its preliminary decision. Prosecutors had directed that there be no prosecution, the report said.

The High Court granted permission for the challenge, barred publication of the applicant’s name and stayed the disclosure process pending determination of the case. The matter was listed to return in October.
