Stephen Tynan and Raymond Fitzgerald were convicted at the Central Criminal Court of murdering Andrew Guerrine. The proceedings were reported on 23 November 2018.

Both men had pleaded not guilty to murdering Guerrine at an unknown place between 22 and 23 May 2015. Guerrine was Tynan’s cousin.

The trial heard that Guerrine’s body was found in the early hours of 23 May on Steelstown Lane in Rathcoole, 10km from where he was last seen alive in Tallaght. He had sustained 20 stab wounds, including two that penetrated his skull and spine.

The jury found both men guilty by a majority of 10 to two after deliberating for a total of 10 and a half hours. Mr Justice White adjourned sentencing until 19 December to give Guerrine’s family time to prepare a victim impact statement. The report said the men were to be sentenced to life in prison.
