Stephen Hanley’s unfair dismissal hearing resumed at the Workplace Relations Commission on 30 May 2023. After seven hours of evidence, adjudicating officer Aideen Collard closed the hearing to consider her decision, which was to be issued later in the summer.
The company denied unfair dismissal and argued that the redundancies were genuine and based on business needs. Stephen Hanley told the WRC that trading projections used figures from the slow months of January and February to estimate the full year.
The WRC had previously upheld unfair dismissal complaints by David and Philip Hanley, awarding them a combined €50,000. The company was appealing those decisions.
Padraic Hanley’s claim was dismissed because the WRC found he had insufficient service to bring an unfair dismissal case. He was appealing that finding to the Labour Court.
