Stephen Cahoon was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering Jean Teresa Quigley at the Central Criminal Court on 3 December 2015. A jury had found him guilty by unanimous verdict of murdering Ms Quigley at Cornshell fields in Derry on 26 July 2008.
The sentence was backdated to Cahoon’s arrest on 5 August 2008. The court heard that Ms Quigley was 10 weeks pregnant with Cahoon’s child when she died. This was Cahoon’s third trial for the murder after an earlier conviction was quashed by the Court of Appeal.
