An unnamed man received a 12-year sentence for rape and sexual assault at the Central Criminal Court in 2014, and a High Court judge later approved an interim receivership order over an estimated insurance payment on 28 June 2022.

Start Mortgages said the man owed it more than €400,000 on unpaid loans. The insurance payment, whose exact value was unknown, was estimated at about €125,000.

The property in the south-east had been destroyed by fire. Zurich had agreed to pay more than €222,000 towards reconstruction and had paid €85,000 to the man’s former lawyers as a first instalment.

The judge was not prepared to make permanent orders until the man’s legal representatives had been heard. The case was adjourned to a date in July.
