An unnamed Sligo man was sentenced to 11 years in prison at the Central Criminal Court for one count of anal rape, 13 counts of indecent assault and three counts of sexual assault.
The man was found guilty in February 2022 of offences against three children committed between 1983 and 1993. Mr Justice David Keane ordered three years of probation supervision after release, with engagement in all services outlined.
The accused did not accept the jury’s verdict and denied the incidents; no guilty pleas were available. The judge took account of his lack of previous convictions, eventual cooperation with gardaí and low risk of reoffending, but refused character references unless their authors attended court for examination. The proceedings were reported on 18 July 2022.
