The Sligo ChampionA 38-year-old man has been fined after gardaí found cannabis and 540 alprazolam tablets in his apartment.
Sean Breslin (38) of Market House, Market Yard, Sligo was charged with the possession of alprazolam and cannabis at Market House, on March 6, 2024.
Breslin was in custody and was therefore not affected by the ongoing dispute between solicitors and the Department of Justice.
Garda Erin Lafferty told the court that at 10:05pm, she executed a search warrant at Breslin’s apartment. She found 540 alprazolam in a wardrobe in his bedroom.
She also found dealer bags and cannabis valued at €50 in the bedroom.
Breslin told Garda Lafferty that the drugs were for his own personal use and that the tablets were prescribed to him by a doctor.
The court heard that the defendant had 33 previous convictions, of which three were relevant.
Mr John Anderson, solicitor (defending), told Judge Éiteáin Cunningham that his client was doing very well in prison. He explained that Breslin had the tablets as he suffered a significant assault and that he was in extreme pain from it.
Mr Anderson asked Judge Cunningham to be as lenient as possible.
Judge Cunningham fined Breslin €200 forthwith on each charge.
