The Sligo ChampionA 34-year-old man fell after he attempted to kick a moving Garda patrol van, Sligo District Court heard.
Daniel Allard of Cartron Hill, Sligo was charged with engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour at Lord Edward St, Sligo on May 10.
Sergeant David McDonagh told the court that at 11:26pm, gardaí were on mobile patrol when they noticed a drunk man. Allard then became aggresive to gardaí in the patrol van and attempted to kick the vehicle whilst it was moving. The defendant subsequently fell on the ground on his back.

The court heard that Allard had eight previous convictions.
Mr Mark Mullaney, solicitor (defending) told Judge Ciaran Liddy that his client had very little recollection of the incident. He added that the gardaí should not have been subject to such abuse. Mr Mullaney said that his client wanted to apologise to Gda Gillespie. He added that Allard regretted his behaviour. Mr Mullaney continued that his client was back on the straight and narrow.
Judge Liddy noted that it had been 10 years since Allard’s last incident. He said that it was a “nasty incident” and fined the defendant €500.
