Slaughterhouse safety manager wins €48,000 for penalisation

By Orla Quinn

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

An unnamed slaughterhouse safety manager won €48,000 for workplace penalisation at the Workplace Relations Commission; the decision was reported on 8 April 2025.

Adjudicator Emile Daly found that a biased investigation led to an unfair reprimand after the manager raised a complaint. She also found that pressing the manager to attend meetings while on sick leave, and proposing an exit package, were further acts of penalisation.

The WRC directed the employer to pay compensation for the effects of penalisation. The manager had described a workplace culture of sexism and alleged mistreatment by a State employee, but the award concerned penalisation by her employer.
