A Wicklow man has had his sentencing delayed after admitting to criminal damage and abusive behaviour towards gardaí.

Jamie O’Brien (30), of 1 Blackberry Lane, Delgany, Greystones, Co. Wicklow, appeared for sentencing at Bray District Court.

Mr O’Brien pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage at Bray Courthouse on April 4, 2025, along with two counts of failing to appear, failing to comply with a garda direction, and engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour at Glen Road, Delgany, on the same date.

The court previously heard in September that Mr O’Brien was observed running down the street with a frying pan in his hand while shouting, “f**k off, gardaí”. Sergeant Anthony Flynn told an earlier hearing that “it must’ve been breakfast gone wrong”.

The defendant told the court he wished to have matters finalised as soon as possible.

Judge David Kennedy noted that a probation report had been ordered at the last sitting. A representative from the Probation Service informed the court that the report would be available within the next two months.

Judge Kennedy remarked that, if sentencing were to proceed immediately, Mr O’Brien could be facing a lengthy custodial term due to his 39 previous convictions, including nine for burglary.

Judge Kennedy adjourned the current matter until early 2026. Mr O’Brien was remanded in custody and must engage with the Probation Service from Cloverhill Prison.
