Seamus Morgan was sentenced to life for murdering Laurence Keane at the Central Criminal Court on 19 January 2016. Keane was attacked in a laneway in Athy, Co Kildare, and later died in hospital. Morgan had denied the murder but was found guilty by a jury after deliberating for more than three hours.
Mr Justice Robert Eagar imposed the mandatory life term after the jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict. The court heard that three witnesses identified Morgan as the attacker, while Keane's blood was later found on Morgan's runners.
