Seamus Casey won his age discrimination in pay claim at the Workplace Relations Commission, in a decision reported on 17 November 2025. The WRC ordered the Irish Heart Foundation to pay him €15,000 compensation and €1,363.12 in salary arrears.
The adjudicator found Casey had received a lower hourly rate for like work without objective justification, but rejected his claim of discriminatory dismissal.
Casey, a stroke support group co-ordinator, had alleged younger colleagues with the same job title were paid more. The charity denied his complaints and cited qualifications, market benchmarking and fixed-term contracts among factors affecting pay.
