Samantha Sinnott’s suspended sentence upheld in money laundering appeal

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Samantha Sinnott’s 12-month wholly suspended sentence for money laundering was upheld by the Court of Appeal in its judgment dated 4 February 2021.

The court refused the Director of Public Prosecutions’ application to review the sentence for undue leniency. Sinnott had pleaded guilty at Wexford Circuit Criminal Court on 16 May 2019 after moving €109,890 from a property in Foulksmills, County Wexford, to her home in Ballymitty. The judgment said the sentence remained within the trial judge’s discretion in an exceptional case.
