Ryanair granted High Court review over John Goss age claim
This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
Ryanair was granted permission to bring a judicial review in the High Court on 20 January 2015 over John Goss’s age-discrimination complaint.
Mr Goss alleges he was discriminated against when his employment as a pilot ended in August 2013, shortly before his 60th birthday. Ryanair denies the complaint and says he was dismissed for gross misconduct.
The airline wants preliminary rulings on issues including the complaint’s timing, its claim that the case is frivolous and vexatious, and whether a retirement age of 60 can be maintained for Dublin pilots. The Equality Tribunal had not decided whether to hold that hearing. The High Court action is due back in March.
