RNLI unfair dismissal complaint adjourned for decision

Seán Dillon told the Workplace Relations Commission that he was unfairly selected for redundancy from his role as the RNLI’s country manager in Ireland. He brought a complaint against the charity under the Unfair Dismissals Act 1977. The proceedings were reported on 10 March 2023.
Mr Dillon said he was denied an interview for the replacement head of region role, which went to a senior manager at the charity’s Poole headquarters who was also at risk of redundancy. He said alternative roles were not proposed to him and that his redundancy was upheld on an internal appeal.
The RNLI sent no representative to the hearing. Adjudicating officer Eileen Campbell waited an hour before proceeding in the charity’s absence, then adjourned the hearing to consider her decision, which she said she would issue in due course.
