The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Raymond Nevin €7,500 after upholding his complaint of discrimination under the Employment Equality Act 1998. The award followed a finding that CPF (Profiles) Ltd in Longford had a workplace culture tolerant of derogatory language about Travellers.
Nevin, who is from the Travelling Community, quit after about two-and-a-half weeks in the company’s sales office in June 2024. He said he heard the managing director use slurs about Travellers during phone calls and make a remark about a Traveller customer. The director said he could not recall some remarks, allowed that he may have used one slur and denied or qualified other allegations.
