RAC Contractors’ appeals against workers’ damages were struck out by the Court of Appeal on 29 July 2019. The awards followed claims by Portuguese motorway workers who said they were underpaid and lived in poor conditions while working near Nenagh.
The appeals concerned damages of more than €1m plus legal costs awarded by the High Court. Ms Justice Caroline Costello said the appeals were a calculated abuse of process intended to delay payment, while lawyers for the employers told the court they intended to appeal to the Supreme Court.
