Protest at Naas accommodation site ends, High Court hears

By Orla Quinn

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The protest at a Newhall, Naas site under construction as emergency accommodation for Ukrainian refugees had ended by Thursday morning, the High Court was told on March 14. Counsel for Total Experience Limited, trading as Pastures New Accommodation, said staff and vehicles could enter and leave, and the company hoped people seeking protection could move in over the coming weeks.

The company asked for the case to be adjourned with permission to return if needed, and did not seek costs against the defendants. Mr Justice Mark Sanfey said the temporary injunction restraining obstruction of the site entrances had lapsed. He adjourned the case generally and allowed the company to return to court if necessary.

The company had previously claimed that protesters obstructed access and trespassed after setting up a campsite. Those were allegations made in the proceedings; the court’s final reported update was that the protest had ended and the injunction had lapsed.
