Peter Sweetman wind farm challenge fast-tracked by court

By Rory Hanlon

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Environmentalist Peter Sweetman’s challenge was fast-tracked by the Commercial Court, as reported on 16 November 2016. The case concerns Tipperary County Council’s extension of planning permission for a 16-turbine wind farm at Castlewaller, Newport, Co Tipperary. Mr Sweetman challenged the extension on grounds including the proposed development’s viability.

The court also transferred a separate Kerry challenge involving permission for 10 turbines near Lixnaw to the Commercial Court. That case was brought by the North Kerry Wind Turbine Awareness Group, with the developer seeking fast-track treatment because delay could threaten participation in the REFIT II scheme.
