By Aoife Loughran

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Paula Farrell pleaded not guilty to murder and guilty to manslaughter at the Central Criminal Court, with the report published on 23 July 2019.

Farrell admitted stabbing Wayne McQuillan four times at a Drogheda address on New Year's morning in 2014.

Defence psychologist Dr Kevin Lamb told the trial that Farrell lacked the cognitive sophistication to plan the killing in the way it happened.

He said post-traumatic stress disorder, intoxication, childhood sexual abuse and the alleged assault had combined in her mental state.
