Paul Gill pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to assaulting Patrick “Patsy” Kelly and Martin Curtis. The assaults happened on 22 August 2015 outside Curtis’s home on Sarto Road, Naas.
Gill had pleaded not guilty to unlawfully killing Kelly and was acquitted of manslaughter after a six-day trial the previous month. Kelly died after the incident. Postmortem evidence at the trial showed that he died from heart disease and that minor trauma from the assault was a contributing factor.
Judge Melanie Greally remanded Gill on continuing bail for sentence the following Monday and warned that some form of custodial element was inevitable. The proceedings were reported on 11 December 2017.
