This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Paul Flanagan was awarded €20,000 for unfair dismissal by the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) after a hearing on 3 September 2021.

Flanagan had worked for Holbury Limited, trading as Safe-Stride, since January 2010, later moving from general operative work into an accountancy role.

He entered a planned 20-week residential treatment course for cocaine addiction on 7 July 2020, but left after eight weeks and contacted the company about returning.

The adjudication officer found that Flanagan had not resigned and that the company dismissed him. Holbury Limited called no evidence at the hearing.

The WRC found the unfair dismissal complaint well founded and awarded him €20,000 compensation.
