Paul Bradley and his sons Jason Bradley, Dean Bradley and Ryan Bradley pleaded not guilty to murdering Neil Reilly at Esker Glebe in Lucan, Dublin, on 18 January 2017. Their trial was before Mr Justice Paul Coffey at the Central Criminal Court.
The proceedings were reported on 31 May 2018. The jury was due to return that day for the prosecution to begin calling witnesses.
Opening the trial, prosecuting counsel Paul Murray SC said the jury would hear that Mr Reilly fired a shotgun at the Bradley home at about 4am on the morning he died and that the four accused gave chase. The prosecution case was that Mr Reilly drove away in a van and later got into a Mazda driven by another man. The Mazda crashed at Esker Glebe, where Mr Reilly’s companion escaped.
Mr Murray said Mr Reilly was subjected to a brutal attack and left for dead. He was taken to hospital and died within a couple of hours. A pathologist’s report recorded seven blows from a chopping-type implement and severe pelvic crush injuries consistent with having been run over. The prosecution alleged that all four accused were knowing participants in a common design to murder him.
