Paul Bradley and his sons Jason Bradley, Dean Bradley and Ryan Bradley pleaded not guilty to the murder of Neil Reilly. The alleged murder took place at Esker Glebe in Lucan, Dublin, on 18 January 2017.
The proceedings were reported on 19 June 2018. The report said Mr Reilly had fired shots at the defendants’ home in the early hours of the morning before the alleged murder.
Brenda O’Connell told the trial that she heard an altercation and saw a black car approach slowly. She said she heard bones crunching as if the car had driven over a body, before it reversed and drove over the body again. She said she also heard the victim groaning.
Colin Dardis said he saw a dark-coloured car strike a man, stop and then drive over him. He recalled that it had reversed, although he could not be certain. Defence counsel Matthias Kelly SC said his client Dean Bradley was the driver and suggested the car had come around a bend at speed, collided with the deceased, gone over him and stopped. Mr Dardis disagreed.
Optometrist Margaret Barrett, called by Mr Kelly, said Dean Bradley’s eyesight was well below the standard for driving without glasses. She told prosecuting counsel Paul Murray SC that a kneeling man at a distance could look like a blob to him; within 20 feet, he would see the man, but blurred.
The trial was continuing before Justice Paul Coffey and a jury.
