Patrick O’Connor received a further €10,000 award for workplace penalisation from the Workplace Relations Commission, reported on 8 May 2024.

The WRC found that penalisation continued after its earlier award, including through an unfinished investigation into a workplace safety complaint. It also accepted that O’Connor continued to experience ostracisation at work.

The adjudicator said the council had not completed its investigation into a further incident reported by O’Connor, and that this failure itself amounted to penalisation. The council had argued that the new complaint overlapped significantly with the original complaint, which was under appeal to the Labour Court.

The WRC upheld the second finding of penalisation and awarded O’Connor €10,000 in compensation.
