Patrick Bardon was jailed at Longford Circuit Court for 11 oral rape charges. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with the final two years suspended. The proceedings were reported on 16 October 2023. Bardon was convicted by a Central Criminal Court jury sitting in Longford in June, for offences at his home in Ferbane between October 1992 and March 1994. Mr Justice David Keane identified grooming, abuse of trust and an 18-month pattern of abuse as aggravating factors. Bardon accepted total responsibility, apologised and said he was prepared to engage with treatment. The sentence requires two years’ Probation Service engagement and post-release supervision, plus any recommended sexual offender treatment programme.
