Paschal Kelly jailed for robbery and false imprisonment

By Niamh Kearney

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Paschal Kelly was jailed for 18 years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 1 February 2019 after convictions for robbery and false imprisonment, among other offences.

The offences arose from a 2014 tiger kidnapping in Malahide and Sutton, Dublin, involving three women who were abducted, restrained and threatened during a post office robbery. Kelly was also convicted of trespass, threatening to kill the women and possessing a stolen vehicle. Judge Karen O’Connor credited time already spent in custody and said the offending was planned and premeditated. The judge also accepted evidence of Kelly’s difficult upbringing and serious abuse in State institutions.
