A 51-year-old Offaly man has been jailed for 12 years after being convicted of five sample counts of rape and oral rape against his daughter, committed between 2012 and 2020. The girl was about five to 13 during the offending, the Central Criminal Court heard.
The court heard that he threatened to kill her and abuse her younger sister if she told anyone. At sentencing, the judge set a 13-year headline term, reduced it to 12 years, and found the man unsuitable for suspension of part of the sentence because he had not acknowledged wrongdoing. He was also ordered to have no contact with his daughters or their mother and to undergo probation supervision for three years after release.
