Tyre fitter Odhran Dooley was awarded €10,980 by the Workplace Relations Commission for working-hours and employment-law breaches, in a decision reported on 23 May 2023.

The Commission found Midland Tyre Services Ltd breached working-time rules by allowing him to work an average of 48 hours a week over four months. It awarded €5,000 for that breach, citing the physically demanding and often dangerous nature of his roadside tyre work.

The decision also awarded €3,500 for failures to provide rest periods, €300 for insufficient notice of additional on-call hours, and €2,180 for two failures to provide written employment terms.
