Norwegian Air protection extended by High Court

By Aoife Loughran

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The High Court extended creditor protection for Norwegian Air and three related subsidiaries on 19 February 2021.

Mr Justice Michael Quinn increased the protection period from 100 days to 150 days, having found that Covid-19’s devastating impact on the airline amounted to exceptional circumstances.

Examiner Kieran Wallace said more time was needed to agree a scheme with creditors that, if approved by the High Court, could allow the airline to continue trading.

The application was unopposed. Contested applications concerning aircraft leases were due before the High Court the following week.
