North East Pylon Pressure Campaign costs case adjourned

By Saoirse Doyle

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

North East Pylon Pressure Campaign Ltd’s costs applications were adjourned by the High Court on 29 July 2016 pending a European ruling.

The case followed the group’s unsuccessful challenge to a planning inquiry for the North-South electricity interconnector.

Mr Justice Richard Humphreys said the court would await an expedited preliminary ruling from the Court of Justice of the European Union before deciding the costs issues.

The questions concern whether European environmental law affects the costs rules applicable to the proceedings, including the requirement that environmental cases should not be prohibitively expensive.
