Nóirín O’Sullivan’s evidence stage at the Disclosures Tribunal had ended, with judgment still awaited on whether unjustified grounds were used against Maurice McCabe, as reported on 1 July 2018. The tribunal examined the legal strategy used at the private O’Higgins Commission.

The tribunal’s counsel had ruled out any intention to suggest that McCabe had sexually abused a child. The remaining issue concerned whether O’Sullivan inappropriately relied on other grounds to challenge his credibility and motivation.

Evidence reported to the tribunal said O’Sullivan authorised a strategy questioning McCabe’s motivation, while denying that she had questioned his integrity or accused him of malice. The report said the tribunal had heard witnesses across four modules over almost 100 days.
