Noel Kirwan murder trial told of tracking device

By Orla Quinn

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Noel Kirwan’s murder trial was told about a tracking device on 4 October 2018, in a report from the three-judge court. Kirwan was shot six times while sitting in his car at St Ronan’s Drive, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, on 22 December 2016.

Jason Keating has pleaded not guilty to murdering Kirwan. Garda telecommunications witness James Kennedy said the device had been fitted with a Dutch SIM card and used GPS positioning to upload movements to a web server, but he could not retrieve location data from its internal memory.

The prosecution has said Kirwan had no connection to the criminal feud it says surrounded the killing. The trial was continuing.
